Refugees live in isolated camps away from local life and need community most of all.  During our partner’s community meetings, one message was clear: we need to get outside of the camp, meet local people, and start talking to them! 

Our partners responded in different ways:

– In 2017 and 2018, they ran a Twinning Project, funded by the UNHCR and INTERSOS.  Participants from the refugee and local community were “twinned” for activities and excursions.

– Since 2019, they have run language cafes around the local town.  The meetups allow refugees and asylum seekers to develop their communication skills in a friendly, relaxed environment.

–They organize sports days such as soccer matches with the refugee community and local networks.

Integration is the long-term aim of our work.  It’s facilitated through programming and creative community engagement activities!
